인간이 살아 숨 쉬는 시공간에는 내러티브가 꿈틀댄다. 이러한 내러티브, 서사를 강력하게 붙잡아 둘 수 있는 예술장르 중 하나가 사진이 아닐까 한다. 사진은 눈앞에 펼쳐진 현실을 프레임에 담아내지만 오래 전부터 작가주의적 관점과 시선을 드러내는 스테이지 사진 또한 미술과 사진의 경계에서 아주 특별한 시각 예술의 한 장르를 만들어 오고 있다.허구와 사실의 경계에서 인간이 지닌 기억과 상상, 그리고 기록, 그 이상의 담론을 한 컷의 작품으로 만들기 위한 스테이지 사진이 가진 매력을 선보일 이번 2023 부산 국제 사진제 주제전 에는 미국, 유럽, 중국, 한국 등 국내외 사진가 14명이 참여한다. The Stage of Narratives 에서는 작가의 적극적인 개입으로 인해 서사적 완성도를 높인 스테이지 포토 작품들을 통해 연출된 한 장의 프레임 속에서 허구가 사실보다 얼마나 더 리얼하게 내러티브를 담아낼 수 있는지, 완성도 높은 시각적인 작품들을 통해 만날 수 있다. 반대로 우크라이나의 참상을 담은 Narratives of the War in Ukraine는 현재 벌어지는 전쟁을 사실적으로 담고 있지만 과연 이것이 21세기 문명사회의 현실이 맞는지 오히려 연출된 듯한, 믿을 수 없는 허구의 세상처럼 전쟁에 대한 거대한 내러티브, 서사를 풀어낸다. The narrative comes to life in the world of space and time where human beings live. The photograph, one of the art genres, could hold such narrative tight and grasp firmly. Photography refers to the process of capturing reality before our eyes into single frames, but the staged photo that features auteurism and perspectives for a long time, also has created a very distinctive genre in the field of visual arts while crossing a borderline between art and photography. 2023 BIPF’s thematic exhibit will come off as exceptionally charming and displays staged photo which captures human’s memory, imagination, records, and discussion that goes beyond that on the boundary between fiction and non-fiction. 14 photographers from the USA, Europe, China, and Korea will take part in this exhibition. presents staged photographs in which the photographers are highly involved in making works near perfect. Visual works with great quality will show that fiction in a single frame of staged photo can effectively convey real narratives more than non-fiction ones. On the contrary, covers the tragedy of Ukraine and depicts wartime realistically. It creates enormous war narratives but raises doubts on whether it’s possible or unthinkable that war can break out in civilized society in the 21st century just like a fictional or fabricated world someone creates. presented by BIPF this year comes with two different stages where you might be caught in a huge whirlpool of intense narrative told by photographers all around the world to the audience.
